ThoughtsJo's hunt in 'No Exit' not only creates a rift between mother and daughter, but also between the Winchesters and the Harvelles. Ellen turns her back on the boys in anger over endangering Jo's life, while Jo, after learning of John's involvement in Bill's death, shifts the blame from the father onto the sons.

The composition of my art visualises the conflicts that arose out of the situation: Ellen and Jo are facing away from each other and both are turning their backs at Dean, as he leaves the Roadhouse, looking back hesitantly. Another door that (temporarily) closes, just after Sam and Dean entrusted them with the truth about Sam's visions. Another ugly information about his father that weighs Dean down, adding to the burdens he carries ever since John's death. Another road that seems to lead nowhere in the end. I added Bill's knife as a reminder of the cause for the fallout between the Winchesters and the Harvelles.

Thoughts'Corroded' is kind of a therapeutic artwork for me. In 'Croatoan' the show pushed hard against my comfort level when Dean shoots Mrs. Tanner. I had a difficult time to reconcile with that part of the episode, so I had to make art about it. I wanted to show how the grief over loosing John, the anger and guilt over John's sacrifice, the burden of the secret that John placed on him, was eating away at Dean for weeks, corroding him from inside out, pushing Dean to his limits.

I thought I should try something different and experimented with a lot of stuff that I usually ban from my art, namely heavy effects/textures over faces, text over faces, using lyrics and quotes at the same time, heterogeneous colouring. Matching the lyrics I worked with a lot of rust and corrosion textures, to achieve a gritty look, everything's in a state of dissolving. I really wanted the lyrics, since they are the base for the visual approach, but I didn't want to do without that quote, both kind of complement each other, so I decided on using both. So, just like the episode, this wallpaper takes me out of my comfort zone artistically. I am not quite sure if I like it, but I think I'll keep it as an experiment.

Parallels are one of the many wonderful things in the SN-verse: In S2 the storyline around Dean possibly needing to kill his beloved younger sibling is paralleled in various episode plots: Gordon, killing his sister because she was turned into a vampire, Andy needing to kill his twin brother in order to stop him from murdering more people, Maggie taking the (willingly given) life of her little sister Rose, to end her lonely existence as a ghost.

To the left I depicted the executed sibling murders by Andy, Gordon and Maggie, while on the right we see Dean struggle with Sam's wish to kill him and ultimately refusing to go through with the task.

This is one of my favourite scenes from 'What Is and What Should Never Be'. Dean is desperately trying to connect to an estranged Sam, who keeps turning away from him, rejecting his touch, meeting Dean's enthusiasm with disinterest and condescendence.

I used some ice-stocks and cold colours to emphasize Sam's estrangement from Dean and the 'frozen' state of their relationship. Yet, in the middle part I incorporated some warm light to show that despite their distance, there's a cordial emotional core between the brothers, that Dean could've build upon, had he chosen to stay.

ThoughtsIn this piece I wanted to show how spirit!Dean is trapped in between worlds. Sam, Dean and the Reaper are on three different planes; Sam in our reality, Dean in some sort of limbo and the Reaper in the afterlife. The mystical energy of the oujia board connects Sam and Dean's spheres, allowing them to hold onto each other, while the Reaper tries to pull Dean towards the afterlife.

I wanted to focus on Dean's struggle to hold on to his connection with Sam under all circumstances, which is why I gave the area with their hands joined on the board that 'glowy' effect. I wanted the three planes distinctly separated from each other, so I utilized the 'out of bounds' effect here, but also wanted them connected, by showing the Reaper reaching into Dean's sphere, while Dean reaches into Sam's sphere.

ThoughtsThis piece was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's poem 'A Dream Within A Dream'. The poem reflects the Djinn's perspective as it traps Dean within his deepest wishes and dreams. I wanted a dream-like and very soft quality to this and I think it worked out ok.

ThoughtsIn this wallpaper I wanted to pack the whole 'Dean sacrifices his soul for Sam's life' storyline of the finale into one piece. I chose Sam's speech to Dean as a counterperspective for the images, commenting on Dean's actions but also showing his willingness to reciprocate the sentiment behind them.

Dean is in the center as he is the one carrying out the actions, as well as being the addressee of Sam's words. The center image of Dean that I chose shows him passive, but intently listening to Sam's words, because I do think that Dean believes him in this scene. I couldn't resist and added the clock image as a symbol for Dean being on a time table now.

ThoughtsEver since 'Nightmare' it is Sam's biggest fear to turn into something he is not. John's last words to Dean seem to confirm all his fears, he seems destined to turn into some kind of killer, a mindless puppet in the YEDs game.

In the end he learns though that he was always in control. There is no 'switch', the YED can't turn him evil, he must make that choice for himself and he chooses to not kill Jake, preserving his character integrity. I loved how subtle this important moment in Sam's story played out on screen.

ThoughtsMy starting point here was the cap of Dean's bloodstained hand. Blood often serves as a symbol for life, so Dean literally watches Sam's life slipping through his hands. On the other hand 'To have s.o.'s blood on your hands' is also metaphorical for being responsible for someone's death, so the cap also shows Dean's guilt over not being able to save Sam.

I added the broken ice-stock to correspond with the 'I'll stay numb' line from the lyrics. Dean slowy becomes encased in ice, growing cold inside, not being able to cope with Sam's death. I went for very subdued greyish/beige colours to emphasize the numbness/deadness, with only the red blood standing out vibrant, as a reminder of a life lost.

ThoughtsBUABS is the 2nd episode where a demon tries to emotionally and physically break Dean while inhabiting the body of person he loves without reservation. When possessed!Sam mercilessly plays on Dean's innate insecurities, torturing him with words and fists, Dean doesn't fight back. Nonetheless I wanted to show here that he probably has a lot more inner resistance than he lets on in that moment.

ThoughtsRe-work August07: I wasn't happy with my first draft of this wallpaper so I re-worked it, this time focussing on how the promise Sam coerces out of his brother breaks Dean, hollows him out and heavily weighs on their relationship. Nonetheless he is willing to carry the burden of that promise, just as he did before, when John made him promise, in order to give Sam his peace of mind. I kept the small cap faded in the center, which symbolises that Sam verbally handed Dean the 'weapon' to kill him if worst comes to worst and added another one, showing Dean's bone deep weariness after Sam's plea.

ThoughtsEver since John's death, Sam is trying to reach out to Dean, who just keeps pushing his brother away, trying to deal with his hurt alone. Accordingly, Dean is turned away from Sam, who is pleading with him, a brickwall symbolising his separation from his brother, his emotional defences firmly in place. In 'Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things' though, Sam finally managed to punch a hole in Dean's defences and gets him to open up to him, sharing his hurt and devastation.

ThoughtsI was asked about my reasons for this particular composition, so here are my thoughts on it: a) I wanted to emphasize the contrast between movement and stillness, Dean and everything around him (flying glass splinters, light and colors) are in constant movement on the right, while everything is perfectly still on the left.

b) I was very much impressed by the impact of the scene in terms of how it ended with Dean looking lost and desperate after that outburst and I wanted to have BOTH parts of that scene in the wallpaper, but since it represents two different emotional states, I needed to divide the canvas and still keep the images connected.

ThoughtsHere I tried to go heavy on the symbolism without loosing the emotional impact of the scene. In the center I assembled representations of death and the passage of time as a reminder of the fragility of life. The hourglass is associated with reapers in pretty much every mythology, so it was the perfect stock choice for Tessa, the faded clock and ripped old paper serve as a symbol of the fugacity of life and softly blended in the lower part of the middle we see Dean, dying at the hand of a reaper.

The first focus of the piece is drawn to that collage, but as the viewer catches on the topic of the wall, the expressions of Tessa and Dean at the sides of the wall become meaning, with her being serene but sympathetic for taking his life and Dean being devastated. Well, at least that was my intention by choosing this composition, so I hope it came through!

Thoughts'The Last Exit' and 'Hold On' are meant to show the two sides of one dilemma for Dean. Tessa pleads with Dean to let go and Sam pleads with him to hold on. In both pieces I decided to let Dean move on, because that's what I read in his expression when he finally turns to speak to Tessa.
